4–6× more heat per unit
A heat pump moves existing warmth from the air into your pool rather than generating it from scratch. That is why it uses a fraction of the electricity of an element or gas heater.

Legacy Air supplies, installs and services Alliance and ITS pool heat pumps across Johannesburg’s northern suburbs. Quieter than gas, far cheaper to run than an element — and sized properly for your pool, not guessed from a catalogue.

Alliance & ITS Heatpumps
Why a heat pump
An element heater turns electricity into heat, one unit in for one unit out. A heat pump simply moves the warmth already in the air into your pool — the same principle as your fridge, in reverse.
01
A heat pump moves existing warmth from the air into your pool rather than generating it from scratch. That is why it uses a fraction of the electricity of an element or gas heater.
02
Johannesburg pools lose heat fast on clear winter nights. A correctly sized unit holds a comfortable temperature so the pool stays in use all year, not just for four months.
03
Inverter units ramp up and down instead of hard starting. The result is a softer sound profile and less wear on the compressor over its life.
04
Nothing to refill and no element to burn out. A heat pump needs clean airflow, correct water flow and a yearly service — that is the whole routine.
The range
We keep it to the two ranges we know inside out, so the advice you get is honest. Both are supplied new, with full warranty support and servicing from our own team.
The workhorse of the range
Straightforward, robust and built for South African conditions. Alliance units are the practical choice for family pools that need reliable heat season after season, with service access that keeps long-term ownership simple.
Precision inverter control
For owners who want quiet, precise heating. Inverter ITS units modulate instead of switching on and off, holding your set temperature steadily while running softly — ideal for pools close to a patio, entertainment area or neighbour's boundary.
Sizing guide
An oversized unit cycles on and off; an undersized one never gets there. Start with your pool volume — it is the single number that decides which heat pump class you need.
Pool volume
48 m³
Suggested heating
14–20 kW
17 kW class
Indicative only. Exposed or windy sites, and swimming through winter, need more capacity — we confirm the final model on site.
Installed by Legacy Air
Neat pipework, correct airflow, honest commissioning.
Installation
Most disappointing heat pumps we are called out to were not the wrong machine — they were badly placed, badly plumbed or starved of airflow. Every Legacy Air installation follows the same checklist.
Aftercare
A heat pump lasts when it is looked after. Legacy Air services and repairs both ranges — and units we did not install, wherever parts allow.
01
Coil clean, filter and flow check, gas and electrical inspection, controller calibration. A yearly service protects efficiency and your warranty.
02
Fan motors, compressors, controllers, flow switches and heat exchangers. We diagnose honestly and tell you when a repair is not worth it.
03
Going away or closing the pool for a season? We set the unit for low-use operation and check it over before you swim again.
Where we work
We are local, so a site visit is not a special trip and a call-back is not a national queue. Installations and servicing across the northern suburbs and beyond.
